Summary: | A set-up for detection of green fluorescence protein (GFP), enabling rapid screening of transgenic tobacco is described. Fluorescence levels were proportional to expression levels, and expressing plants were visually selected from a transgenic population. Quantification of GFP expression indicated that the 35S CaMV promoter drives expression of this reporter gene to different levels in different tissues, corroborating previous similar observation with GUS, indicating that constitutive expression varies quantitatively in different tissues. |
