Summary:A pulse-polarographic method of protein estimation has been developed. Bovine serum albumin produces in ammonia buffer in the presence of cobaltic salt one or two waves, respectively, which are linearly proportional to protein concentration in the range of 0.05 to 10 μg/ml. The lowest limit for serum albumin estimation is around 5 nanograms. The method is relatively specific and the determination is little affected by the presence of other substances. An appropriate standard should be used because of the different polarographic activities of various proteins. Practical applicability of the method has been verified by the analysis of some biological materials of animal and plant origin.
