Summary: | A nucleopolyhedrosis of
Rachiplusia ou (Guenée), one of a complex of looper species infesting commercially grown mint is described. Infection of the virus (
Borrelinavirus) is characteristically similar to those of other nucleopolyhedroses in lepidopterous hosts.
Quantitative results indicated that the virus has low virulence when compared to that infecting
Trichoplusia ni (Hübner); alternatively, the disease of
R. ou may be a result of cross transmission of the nucleopolyhedrosis virus of
T. ni to a secondary host. The estimated LT
50 was between 5 and 6 days for the highest dose of 1.4 × 10
8 polyhedra/larva. |
