Summary:The influence of platelet homogenates on thrombopoiesis in rabbits has been investigated. Before and five days after injection of the platelet homogenates platelet counts were determined. Moreover, the platelets were separated into four populations of different density. The platelet homogenates induced a significant increase of the platelet counts which was mainly due to an increase of the small light forms with a relative decrease of the large forms. It is concluded that platelets themselves contain a thrombopoiesis stimulating factor.
