Summary:A simple and powerful algorithm for a multiparametric search along a clinical Nuclear Medicine patient data base is described. It takes full advantage of the multiple linked list structure of the data base, aiming at the minimization of the time (i.e., disk accesses) needed to reply to the search request. Assuming a uniform distribution of all search parameters in the data base, the theoretical evaluation of the search duration has been found to be a fair estimate of the observed results. Since all fields pertaining to the description of a given patient visit record are available for retrieval through this algorithm, a powerful on-line tool is made available to the physician for research or statistical purposes.
