Summary:The activities of the five acid hydrolases together with protein, DNA, and RNA were established in growing tumours and in tumours five days after ovariectomy. Although variations were recorded between the individual enzymes, the general trend was an increase in the specific activity of the five acid hydrolases. The most marked increase in activity was recorded with acid proteinase, an important enzyme involved in the breakdown of tissue components. The results indicate that the pattern observed for the regressing tumour is similar to that observed for normal hormone-dependent tissue undergoing physiological changes.
