Summary:The precipitation behaviour of a low carbon microalloyed steel (0.08C, Nb, Ti, V and Mo) was studied by means of scanning and transmission electron microscopy using samples of industrially processed plate. Several types of precipitates, in terms of size and composition, are formed at different stages of processing. Coarse TiN particles of up to 3 microns in size are formed during or soon after casting. Ti-rich and Nb-rich precipitates, 30 to 300 nm in size, are formed during rolling. Niobium carbides, ?10 nm in size, are precipitated during austenite transformation and very fine Nb rich precipitates, ≤5 nm in size, are formed after coiling.
