Summary:A rapid procedure for the extraction of neutral and basic drugs and drug metabolites with isopropanol from diluted plasma saturated with potassium carbonate has been developed. The isopropanol extract is suitable for analysis by thin layer or gas chromatography. Recovery experiments (radioactivity) with phenobarbital and caffeine gave 100 ± 5% recovery. The absence of emulsions contributes to the high recovery.
