The recent publication of the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church gives added point to this question. This paper sketches the elements that should inform a genuinely authoritative Catholic teaching on this subject, based on the foundational principles of Catholic moral theology. The most recent encyclical in this area, Benedict XVI's Caritas in Veritate, is analysed. |
