Summary:Nanotechnology is an emerging field of research due its various advantages and applications in medicine and cosmetics. Its unique physiochemical properties like drug loading capacity, high retention and penetration contributes to extensive cosmetology and cosmeceutical effect. However, as a new field of study, it is now encouraging research into its toxicological profile, notably in terms of health effects and environmental pollution. This review has demonstrated that nanotechnology can be used productively in cosmetics by evaluating many studies and articles on the subject, providing updates regarding market covered, toxicological effects and regulatory aspects related to use in cosmetic products. This review represents important aspects on nano cosmetics formulations. In terms of nano cosmetics' future, we must concentrate on assessing and managing the risks that come with its prospective market expansion. In addition to this it also gives an overview of different nano systems and their use in marketed cosmetic formulation. [Display omitted]
