Summary:The development of transcontinental power grids will have various impacts on the economies of the world, and the benefits of each relevant country are important foundations for the implementation of this strategy. Most of current researches on the assessment of transcontinental power grids mainly focuses on technology or economic cost. This paper, from perspective of energy, economy, society and environment, provides a comprehensive benefit evaluation index and method system. We apply power system production simulation models (PSPS), multinational and multisectoral the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) model, and emission estimation models to calculate evaluation of benefits, taking the North-South America transcontinental power grid as an exampl. The simulation results show that transcontinental grid construction is conducive to complementing the energy of these countries, promoting their economic growth, and reducing pollution emissions in these areas.
