Summary:A clinical investigation was conducted of therapy of patients with acute pneumonia using a new antioxidant diquertin, whose primary component is a bioflavonoid, dihydroquercetin. It was demonstrated that patients with acute pneumonia receiving diquertin in an adjuvant therapy had a faster recovery from symptoms of pneumonitis and a better state of free radical generating processes in serum lipids, compared with patients undergoing traditional therapy. The clinical effectiveness of the antioxidative activity of diquertin was confirmed by comparison with an antioxidative complex including α‐tocopherol acetate and sodium thiosulphate.
