Summary: | The process of compaction of sediment is investigated from the point of view of continuum mechanics. We propose to use the energy condition of balance of powers to describe the process of compaction of sediment in the sludge compactor of an oil trap. It is established that through the use of the energy condition of balance of powers a relation may be established between the parameters of the process of compaction of sludge in a sludge compactor, such as the geometric, kinematic, and rheological parameters as well as the specific frictional force of the particles of sludge against the wall of the sludge compactor, the specific weight of the sediment, and the forces of hydrodynamic pressure (head). An example illustrating the calculation of the parameters of an oil trap is presented. |
