Geological investigations on cruise 46 of the R/V Akademik Ioffe (Rotterdam, the Netherlands to Ushuaia, Argentina) organized by Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences were carried out from October 3 to November 7, 2014, after closing of the tourist season. The expedition was aimed at studying Quaternary sedimentation under influence of bottom currents in the South and Equatorial Atlantic in order to elucidate the role of these currents in the sedimentary infilling of transform fault troughs crossing the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) and in the formation of the continental rise of South America.
