Summary: | A systematic design of compact polarization-mode splitters with mode-size converters using tapered resonant vertical couplers (VCs) has been demonstrated with contrast ratios as much as 95 : 1. The tapered transfer region is designed to include only the resonant width for the desired polarization. Such filters could be used as the input stage of polarization sensitive optical devices. The VC architecture also improves fiber coupling to the optical devices and serves as a means for vertical optical integration. |
