Summary:The paper presents the cold flow measurements in a two-dimensional dump diffuser. The laser Doppler velocimeter was used for the measurements of mean velocity components and its fluctuation in order to clarify the flow regimes in a sudden expansion region. Wall friction velocity on the outer wall was also measured by a wall flow sensor. The rolling up of flow from the outer wall is observed in a sudden expansion region near the reattachment point. Such behavior contributes to the favorable characteristics on the flow rate distribution to the branched channels, while it produces turbulence energy which causes a large pressure loss in the dump diffuser. Wall friction velocity and its fluctuation in a sudden expansion region decrease toward the base of the prediffuser.
