Fifty-one new genes and 7 new quantitative trait loci (QTL) have been added since the last report. Thirty-five visible mutants map to Chr 2, including one new one, itchy (Itch), with an immunological phenotype. Itch encodes a novel E3 ubiquitin protein ligase, a protein involved in ubiquitin mediated protein degradation (45910). The wst mutation, which leads to a fatal wasting, immunological and neurological disorder, was shown to be a deletion of eukaryotic translation factor 1 alpha 2 (47466). In 1998 two historically significant autosomal transplantation antigen genes H13 and H3a, originally described by Snell in 1958 (Snell, G.D. (1958) J.Natl. Cancer Inst. 21: 843-877) as part of the first ever set of congenics, were cloned (43690, 51335).
