Summary:Acid-catalyzed dissociation of (acetylacetonato) [N-(o-carboxyphenyl) iminodiacetato]chromate(III) ion has been studied kinetically in aqueous perchloric acid media over a temperature range (60–80 °C). Under these conditions the reaction occurs by two concurrent paths according to the following rate law: Rate=k1[complex]+k2[complex][H+], where k1 and k2 are the appropriate rate constants for the spontaneous and acid-catalyzed pathways, respectively Analysis of the rate data corresponding to the rate constants k1 and k2 suggests solvent assisted dissociation of the complex and its conjugate acid for the two paths, respectively, and that the opening of the chelate ring is rate determining.
