Summary:Children learn to classify on the basis of gender categories very early. It is questioned here whether such sex-typing is desirable & how subject it is to modification. Review of the literature suggests four key questions: age or developmental stage at which modification can be most successful; relationship between cognition & behavior; situational consistency of stereotyped behavior; & effects of individual differences on adherence to stereotypes. All of these factors must be considered in attempts to modify gender-stereotyping among children. 62 References. W. H. Stoddard
