Summary:For patients requiring long-term gastrostomy for enteral feedings and in whom an endoscope can be passed into the stomach, percutaneous gastrostomy (PEG) is the preferred procedure. In patients with carcinomatosis, however, there is an increased risk of large or small bowel injury during PEG placement, and sometimes surgeons consulted for open gastronomy in these patients. Here, a method for PEG insertion in patients with carcinomatosis is described. This method provides a safer and more controlled approach to the gastrointestinal tract than the traditional PEG procedure.
