Summary:The reaction of 6,9-bis-(acetonitrile)decaborane, I, with amines and alcohols has been studied. The products of the reactions of n-BuNH 2 , (n-Bu) 2 NH, PhNH 2 , n-PrNH 2 , (n-Pr) 2 NH, and CH 3 OH with I, which results in retention of the decaborane cage have been fully characterized, including the molecular strucutures of 6,9-bis-(N-di-n-butylacetamidine)decaborane and 6,9-bis-(N-phenylacetamidine)decaborane.
