Summary: | A trawl efficiency device (TED) was developed to reduce bycatch whilst maintaining prawn catches and operational ease and safety. The concepts and design of the system, including an innovative flexible grid, are described. The system reduced bycatch, with significantly fewer large rays and turtles being caught than in conventional trawl nets. Video photography indicated that further refinements would be appropriate. |
