Summary:Kliewer investigates whether Brazil is still the biggest Catholic country in the world--more than a quarter of Brazilians now belong to other denominations or religions. In the 2000 census, to the question about religious adherence respondents mentioned more than 100 different religions or religious organizations. Still, of these, only 11 have more than 1 million members. The others are denominations and individual churches whose membership is in the hundreds.
