Arrabidaea chica, popularly known as “crajirú”, has three major pigments of the 3-deoxyanthocyanin type. Four types of extracts and two conditions of fractionation were used in order to obtain carajurin-rich extract fractions. In the first and second cases, the extracts were obtained with supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) from leaves and, from a dry hydroalcoholic extract (SDHAE), in the third the extract was obtained from the ethanolic extraction of a SDHAE, and in the fourth a reconstituted dry hydroalcoholic extract was used. Extract fractionation was carried out by stepwise pressure reduction in four separators in series, and in the third and fourth cases scCO2 was added in the first separator at a CO2/extract ratio of 91:9 (w/w). From the extraction of the leaves, extract fractions containing concentrated carajurin were obtained. From the ethanolic extraction of the SDHAE obtained some fractions concentrated in anthocyanins and fractionation of the reconstituted hydroalcoholic extract was inefficient.
