Response measurements of NE102 to Z=2–6 ions at E/ A=0.15–1.5 GeV, and predictions for higher Z's

The response of NE102 to 2≤ Z≤6 ions having E/ A=0.15–1.5 GeV has been measured and analyzed. The data show an important Z dependence, not reproduced by the semi-empirical model of Birks. Published lower-energy data support this finding. A model, taking into account the energy deposition by secondar...

Summary:The response of NE102 to 2≤ Z≤6 ions having E/ A=0.15–1.5 GeV has been measured and analyzed. The data show an important Z dependence, not reproduced by the semi-empirical model of Birks. Published lower-energy data support this finding. A model, taking into account the energy deposition by secondary electrons, and the energy flow from solute-to-solvent molecules is used to explain the observed behavior.
