Summary:A number of logit models are presented to explain voter choice for a referendum considering a new high school building. Various formulations of marginal tax price and a relative tax price are presented. Empirical results indicate (i) voters (property owners) react to Michigan's property tax credit, (ii) an improved tax price variable results from accounting for the differences between voters' total assessed value of property and the assessed value of their homestead within the taxing jurisdiction, and (iii) voters react to the rate of change in taxes as well as the increase in the amount paid.
