Coherence improvement in dispersion‐tuned swept laser by pulse modulation

Summary:The dispersion‐tuned swept laser (DTSL) is a fast and wideband swept source applicable in swept‐source optical coherence tomography (SS‐OCT). However, it suffers from coherence degradation at high sweep rates. The coherence in the DTSL, which can be improved by pulse modulation in place of sinusoidal modulation, is demonstrated. A coherence length of 8 mm is obtained at a sweep rate of 50 kHz using 100 ps pulse modulation.
