Summary: | Less frequently, in approximately 13 per cent of patients with PXE, small vessel disease of the stomach may lead to gastrointestinal hemorrhage.1 Failure of small mucosal vessels to sufficiently retract in response to a bleeding lesion is the most probable etiology of gastric hemorrhage in PXE.3 Arterial wall thinning, formation of aneurysms, and subsequent rupture may also be involved.4 In our case, both small mucosal vessels and the submucosal vessel found on pathologic examination likely contributed to recurrent, uncontrolled bleeding. |
