Summary:This paper deals with a taxon established as a subspecies of the conodont species Pa. subperlobata . The name of this subspecies changed for more than half a century from Pa. subperlobata ‘subsp. A’ Helms, 1963 to Pa. subperlobata helmsi Ovnatanova, 1976 and later to Pa. subperlobata tatarica Ovnatanova et Gatovsky, 2020, as it became apparent that the name Pa. helmsi was preoccupied and needed to be replaced. This taxon is here considered as a full species. The holotype of the species Pa. tatarica Ovnatanova et Gatovsky, 2020 (= Pa. subperlobata helmsi Ovnatanova, 1976) is compared with the holotypes of species suggested as replacements of the preoccupied name. A phylogenetic scheme for the Pa. subperlobata group is proposed.
