Summary: | Mahon et al discuss the future of the rural in economic terms and how the arts and culture can act as a resource. A number of these debates have also questioned regional development perspectives that place particular emphasis on the phenomenon of the cultural economy as a potential driver of development. These debates have highlighted the tendency at policy and programme level to adopt an urban-centric view of the cultural economy as part of competitive place-based development grounded for example in the urban's potential to deliver on economies of scale, cultural industry/sector clustering and density of cultural infrastructure. |
