Asymmetric organozincate additions to ethyl 2,2,2-trifluoropyruvate

A chromatography-free synthesis of enantiomerically enriched chiral a-trifluoromethyl alpha-hydroxy acids prepared via an asymmetric (R)-BINOL-mediated organozincate addition to ethyl,2,2-trifluoropyruvate (1) is reported.
