Summary: | Contrary to our department practice guidelines, we discovered that 78 patients (13%) received propofol anesthesia for induction, maintenance, or both. Because propofol is promoted as a successful preventative of PONV,1-3 and anecdotal reports from surgeons and anesthesiologists indicated that propofol decreased hospital length of stay, we expanded our study to a complete medical record review for length of surgery, age, and gender. [...]of these studies, we hope to adjust our practice guidelines for the use of propofol to reflect its cost-effective use while maintaining high patient and provider satisfaction. |
