Summary:The aim of this study was to find the rate of incidental thyroid cancer in patients undergoing surgery (Grave's disease, toxic-MNG) for hyperthyroidism and review the possible causative factors for malignancy in hyperthyroidism.2 Materials and methods This study was approved by the institutional review board. Data collection included patient demographics, thyroid function status (euthyroid, hypothyroid or hyperthyroid), pre-operative imaging and cytology, surgical histopathology and treatment details. A multivariate logistic regression was performed to adjust for baseline heterogeneity amongst the study groups.3 Results A total of 448-patients fulfilled the selection criteria. In the control group (Non-toxic MNG), the indications for surgery were cosmetic deformity, pressure symptoms, progression in the size of the dominant nodule as well as patient preference.4 Discussion There are many factors that affect the incidence of thyroid cancer.
