Summary: | Pyocolpos, an uncommon accumulation of pus in the vagina, has not been previously reported in an elderly woman.
A 76-year-old woman was hospitalised with post-menopausal bleeding and fever. Pelvic examination revealed an obstructed vagina. A gadolinium MRI showed pyocolpos. After surgical drainage, the patient rapidly recovered.
Pyocolpos in elderly woman may appear spontaneously without any history of gynaecologic cancer or trauma. |
