Summary: | Sapphire fibers made by the internal crystallization method were introduced into Ti-Al-based matrices using presusre casting. Creep tests were started at temperatures beyond those normally considered for titanium aluminide alloys. The results of preliminary tests of AL2O3/TiAl composites show that usage of such composite systems shifts the temperature limit for light structural material in terms of creep resistance to at least 1050 C. The creep strength on a 100 hr time base reaches 120 MPa at that temperature. (CSA) |
