Summary:Acoustic waves in periodic functionally graded (FG) 1 D rods are studied by applying the modified Cauchy formalism previously developed for analyzing dispersion of the surface acoustic waves (SAW) in stratified media. In case of harmonic waves traveling in a semi-infinite rod with harmonic periodicity of acoustic properties several phenomena were observed, including the non-periodic spatial variation of the phase velocity and wave magnitude, but spatially periodic variation of kinetic and strain energy.
