Summary:In this paper, the application of zone smelting to remove the trace heavy metal lead from waste acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (wABS) plastics was investigated. ABS standard samples with uniform and stable lead content were prepared by the method of lead stearate coupling agent. The structure, thermal stability, morphology and lead content of the standard ABS samples before and after zone smelting were characterized by FTIR, DSC, SEM and ICP-AES. The results showed that the lead content in the front and middle sections of the ABS sample decreased obviously after zone smelting, while the lead content in the tail increased significantly, and the structure, thermal stability and morphology remained basically unchanged.
