Summary:In the axiomatic design (AD) theory, the transformation from the function requirement (FR) to the design parameter (DP) is the key of the whole design process. The designers need numerous and multifarious design resources from outside to be introduced into this transformation to promote the quality, innovation and competitiveness of their design schemes. However, introducing a large number of design resources also brings in a large amount of design resource searching and combination exhausting, which is a heavy load on the designers. Therefore, in this study, the multifarious design resources, which can be contacted and used by the designers via the advanced Internet and logistics network, are assumed as a distributed resource environment (DRE), and the FR-to-DP transformation is semi-automated within the DRE via a proposed algorithm and a proposed improving method. To test this DRE-based semi-automation, a friction testing machine is designed as an example.
