Summary:This paper describes a prototype software, ClientPro, which was developed in response to the need for computer based tools to support the early stages of the construction process. ClientPro was developed as a Microsoft Access application, and it is designed to facilitate the effective processing of client requirements on construction projects. The methodology, development, operation and evaluation of the prototype are discussed, and it is concluded that, ClientPro is potentially useful in facilitating the systematic definition, analysis, and mapping of client requirements to design specifications. It also provides for the incorporation and prioritisation of the perspectives represented by the client, the determination of the relative importance of his/her requirements, and the early consideration of issues affecting the life cycle of a facility. Thus, it can contribute to the ultimate satisfaction of the requirements of construction clients.
