Summary:Researchers utilized three inventories (including inventories for the years 1980, 1990, and 1995) to evaluate the carbon reservoir of wood products in Finnish construction and civil engineering applications. Techniques used to estimate the types of different construction materials used in the diverse parts of buildings are described. Analyses of building permits were used to collect information, such as the materials used for building frames and facades. In addition, enquiries were used to collect additional information on the use of wood products in construction. Changes in the mix of construction materials used in Finland over the course of the past decade are detailed. Values for the C reservoir were determined based on the dry matter content of wooden construction materials.
