N-Alkylation of aniline with ethanol over HY and dealuminated HY zeolites

Vapor phase alkylation of aniline with ethanol is studied over HY and ultrastable Y zeolites produced by Multi Step Temperature Programmed (MSTP) steaming procedure. N-Alkylation is the predominant product over all the temperature studied and the major product being N-ethylaniline (NEA). The degree...

Summary:Vapor phase alkylation of aniline with ethanol is studied over HY and ultrastable Y zeolites produced by Multi Step Temperature Programmed (MSTP) steaming procedure. N-Alkylation is the predominant product over all the temperature studied and the major product being N-ethylaniline (NEA). The degree of dealumination and the steaming temperature influences aniline alkylation activity. HY zeolite steamed at moderate temperature (550–700 °C) improves the aniline conversion and yield of N-ethylaniline. The influence of temperature, feed rate, and molar ratio on activity and selectivity of the products are investigated.
