Summary:Aerobic Gram-negative bacilli which are environmental organisms found in water, air, soil and on plants, fruits and vegetables, distributed worldwide, have become particularly problematic in the hospital environment. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the most important and well-known aerobic Gram-negative involved in many nosocomial infections. Among aerobic Gram-negative non-fermentative bacilli, Acinetobacter spp are also increasingly responsible for hospital infections. The purpose of this review is to investigate the situation of the other Gram-negative aerobic bacilli in terms of their new implications as potential or newer nosocomial pathogens.
