Summary:New organic electro-optic and nonlinear optical material, N-(2-chlorophenyl)-(1-propanamide) has been synthesized by the standard method. The synthesized material is purified by repeated crystallization. Single crystals of N-(2-chlorophenyl)-(1-propanamide) were grown by the slow evaporation technique. The grown crystals were transparent and were of optimum dimensions (20×5×5 mm 3). The grown crystals were characterized by UV–Vis, IR, NMR and powder XRD techniques. The second harmonic generators (SHG) signal was detected by employing fluorescence spectroscope.
