Summary:Ultraviolet absorption bands peaked around 215 and 270 nm in Fe doped KDP crystals are used as a simple method to study the distribution of Fe concentration in the crystals. Particular attention is paid to the growth bands regions where the ultraviolet absorption is much stronger than in the rest of the crystal. Chemical analysis ascertains a much higher Fe concentration in the growth bands regions. Ni and Cu doped crystals exhibit a similar behaviour.
