Summary:Based upon the investigation on stress-strength-time model of component reliability, this paper is mainly concerned with the relationship between component failure rate models and the stress-strength distributional characteristics. First it is noted that failure probability may be treated as a mixture of strength distributions. Then some new concepts, e.g. survival probability beyond a stress level, conditional strength failure rate and pseudo-Laplace transform are introduced and studied. By considering some commonly encountered distributions quantitative relationships between component failure rate and the time-dependence of strength distribution are established.
