Summary:Preschoolers' (4- to 7-year-olds) recall and correct rejection rates using the simultaneous, wildcard, elimination, and a new lineup; the elimination with wildcard were compared. The new lineup uses the traditional two judgement procedure inherent to the elimination lineup but modifies Judgement 2 by providing a wildcard rejection. Participants (N = 116) watched a 4-min video of a male target. Each participant was asked to free recall the details of the video and to answer cued recall questions about the target's appearance. Participants were then given one of the four target-absent lineups. Separating by older and younger preschoolers, the 4/5-year-olds reported an average of 1.18 descriptors with an 87% accuracy rate, while the 6/7-year-olds reported an average of 1.93 descriptors with a 91% accuracy rate. For both the older and younger preschoolers, correct rejection rates were highest for the new elimination with wildcard lineup, followed by the simultaneous lineup.
