Magnetocaloric effect linked to structural and magnetic transitions in Ni–Fe–Ga alloys

In this work, the analysis of the magnetocaloric effect linked to the martensitic transformation (MT) in polycrystalline Ni 53+ x Fe 20− x Ga 27 ( x = 0.5 , 1, 2) ferromagnetic shape memory alloys is reported. Two alloys show a MT between two ferromagnetic phases ( x = 0.5 and 1) and in the third al...

Summary:In this work, the analysis of the magnetocaloric effect linked to the martensitic transformation (MT) in polycrystalline Ni 53+ x Fe 20− x Ga 27 ( x = 0.5 , 1, 2) ferromagnetic shape memory alloys is reported. Two alloys show a MT between two ferromagnetic phases ( x = 0.5 and 1) and in the third alloy ( x = 2 ) the MT occurs in the paramagnetic state. The magnetic fluctuations around the martensitic transformation temperature, T M, that appear above T C in the x = 2 alloy, could induce a value of the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in paramagnetic state comparable to the values obtained during the MT in the ferromagnetic state.
