Summary:Successful integration of advanced practice providers into health care organizations is an emerging priority. This study is a pilot, descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study of advanced practice providers (certified registered nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants) and their perception of the presence and essential nature of key elements of integration into practice, including advanced planning, role definition and consensus building, collaboration, support, and models of care. All key elements were perceived as essential, and the findings support customized integration frameworks. •A comprehensive framework should be used for advanced practice provider (APP) integration.•All key elements of integration were reported by APPs as essential.•Disparity exists between perceived essential and present key elements.•Experience may influence an APP’s perception of integration.•Future studies are needed to further explore key elements of APP integration.
