Summary:In this paper, the growth rates of spherical and ellipsoidal crystals evolving in metastable melts and solutions are derived. Different scenarios and aspects of crystal growth (steady-state, unsteady-state, the phase transition temperature shift due to the curvature of the crystal surface and the kinetics of attaching atoms to it) are considered. The derived crystal growth laws under various process conditions are generalized and compared to experimental data.
