•Polyimide (PI) composites doped by silver nanosheets (Ag NSs) were prepared.•An interface between Ag and PI is detected via X-ray scattering/diffraction technique.•A mechanism related to interface evolution is proposed in the composites.
Polyimide (PI) based composites filled by silver nanosheets (Ag NSs) were prepared by using in situ polymerization. The relationship between dielectric properties and micro-structure (matrix and interface) of the PI/Ag NSs composites was investigated. The interface characteristics between Ag NS and PI matrix were detected via X-ray scattering and diffraction technique. With Ag NSs content increasing (0–10 vol%), the dielectric permittivity of the composites increases from 3.18 to 4.55 at 100 Hz, during which the interface is gradually formed. As content is added continually (10–20 vol%), dielectric permittivity decreases to 3.75. A mechanism related to interface evolution is proposed to explain the dielectric properties of the PI/Ag composites. Due to low dielectric loss and excellent insulating property of the PI/Ag composites, it is demonstrated to be potential high-K dielectric materials. |
